Facebook live streaming is a great way to connect with your client base and is also terrific for your website’s SEO. You can significantly increase the net you cast in promoting your business with live streaming. People are increasingly consuming live streaming content. From a business perspective, creating content that is both captivating and clever shows how forward-thinking and proactive your business is. All in all, it’s a win.

If you’re creating live streaming content for your business, then it’s a good idea to brand it with company imagery. This way anyone who stumbles upon your live stream will know that it is, in fact, a business that is producing it. Branding prevents people from re-appropriating your content. It also allows you to broadcast special products, services or contact information without having to constantly interrupt your live stream to deliver promotional spiels.

Branding your live stream content is very straightforward. You can use any of the free graphic editors available on the internet. The steps are straightforward and accessible to anyone, regardless of experience in design and film.

  1. Create Your Business Banner
  2. If you have Photoshop and are comfortable using it then feel free to create your banner using the software. Canva is a great alternative, is free to anyone, is more simple to use than Photoshop and allows you to edit graphics directly in a web browser.

When you create your banner consider that it will be sitting in the lower ⅓ of the video screen. This may affect how you design it. Aim for 1280×120 pixels for a horizontal video (try to shoot a horizontal video as shooting vertically is a faux pas in the internet world).

Use whatever colours, imagery and wording suits your business and makes sense for the video. You can include your company’s signature colours, your logo and text for any special offers or contact information your customers might be interested in. Make sure your text is legible. Not light text on dark backgrounds, highlighter-coloured text, or text that doesn’t contrast with the background. Making your customers strain to read the writing ensures that they won’t.

Save your image as a PNG. This will preserve the transparent background and allow you to overlay just the banner over your video. Make sure the image is on your phone, as you’ll be using the device to record your live stream.

  1. Download and Setup Switcher Go
  2. Switcher Go is an app that lets you overlay graphics on top of your Facebook Live or Youtube Live streams. Download the app and set it up with your information, then select the option to connect to your Facebook account.

  1. Prepare Your Video
  2. When you select the option to set up your Facebook Live video, Switcher Go will take you to a preparation screen where you can fill out the post’s title, description and privacy settings. This is a very important step. Try and make the title clear and engaging, and fill out all the description forms robustly. The more information you give, the better the video will rank and the more discoverable it will ultimately be.

There is an option to select video quality at this point. If you have fast wi-fi then you can opt for the highest quality, but if you’re wi-fi is struggling then choose medium or low quality. High quality is best and reflects well of your business, but going for high quality video with low quality wi-fi will result in broken, choppy video that people will quickly click away from.

After that click “Create Live Stream” and you’re all set.

  1. Add The Banner
  2. Before you go live Switcher Go allows you to tweak everything so it’s perfect. You can adjust the camera focus at this time, as well as add your business banner. Tap the star icon at the lower left corner of the screen. An option will come up to add a banner. Select the PNG file of your banner saved in your phone. Switcher Go will ask where the banner should be placed, so select “Lower Third”.

You’ll see two screens in the bottom part of your camera, showing the frame that will be filmed and the banner overlayed. If these screens are outlined in red that means they’re both live. If you want to turn off the banner at any point then just tap the box and it will lose it’s red outline, and disappear from view in the video.

  1. Go Live
  2. Tap the big red “Go Live” button to begin your live stream. There’s no countdown-as soon as the button is pressed then you’re live to the world.

Once the live stream is finished it will be stored in your company’s video library. You can then boost this video to your target audience, whether it be by interests, demographic or locality.

It’s really simple to add a banner to your Facebook live streams, and doing so will allow you to focus on the valuable content you’re creating rather than stopping periodically so people know you’re trying to sell something. Having a banner to read is discrete, keeps up the flow of your video and imparts your company’s branding to the customer. Next time you live stream, give it a try. You might see more new customers reaching out to try what you have to offer.
